Sri Lanka: Galle

To learn a little more about our heritage, my sister and I really wanted to visit more cities in Sri Lanka. The cousins decided that Galle would be a great fit so obviously a 2 hours road trip meant a very cool mix tape involving 90s pop. Yes, we are a very cool bunch of people! After a very funny car ride, our bellies were yelling for some food so we stopped at the old Dutch hospital to grab a bite to eat. The view was pretty delightful.

Galle is located in the southwestern tip of the country and is the fifth largest city in the country. The Galle fort is another World Heritage site and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers. The city also has a natural harbour, a museum, a cathedral and some temples. The city also holds the Galle International Stadium which is considered to be one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the world but was severely damaged during the tsunami. It was reconstructed so that matches would be able to resume (3 years later). Before heading back home, we made a pit stop at the beach. My cousin, A, took this picture on his route for a business trip.

Doesn't the water look amazing?  My trip to Sri Lanka was definitely a holiday to remember; visiting family after several years and being taken to so many gorgeous locations made me very grateful. If you have the chance to visit Sri Lanka and see the pearl of the Indian Ocean in all its glory, then I definitely recommend the visit. It truly is a wonderful place to go and I'm hoping I'll be able to go as soon as I can.
